A segment producer for the "American Idol Experience" at Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios has been named "Student of the Year" at Mountain State University's Orlando campus.
Mary Thompson Hunt received her Master of Science in Strategic Leadership on Tuesday evening during commencement ceremonies for MSU Orlando at the Sanford Civic Center. She was among 40 students to receive degrees from the Beckley, W.Va.-based university.
The "Student of the Year" award was presented by Randy White, executive director of MSU Orlando.
Tuesday's commencement ceremonies also featured remarks by Mountain State University Interim President Richard E. Sours, Ph.D. Sours was appointed interim president by the university's Board of Trustees in March.
A New Jersey native, Hunt received her bachelor of arts degree from Montclair State University. She is a member of the Screen Actors Guild, Actor's Equity and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
Hunt worked at Walt Disney World's Comedy Warehouse for 18 years, performing in almost 15,000 shows. In addition to being an improvisational comedy artist for more than 25 years, Mary also does voice-overs, hosts events, conducts interviews and was the "Voice of Epcot" for 11 years.
Hunt teaches improvisation, and facilitates workshops and seminars for businesses that are looking to create powerful teams. Using improvisation, she hones in on listening skills, creative thinking techniques and trust.
She is the daughter of Probyn and the late Betty Thompson, and stepdaughter of Golda Thompson. She and her husband, artist Jason Hunt, have been married for 27 years.
