Mountain State University's Student Government Association recently donated personal hygiene and grooming items to the Women's Resource Center in Raleigh County.
"This is a very important and much-needed community agency," said SGA president Ryan Ratliff. "We're proud to support the Resource Center and its mission."
The SGA executive board and staff members of MSU's Office of Student Life visited the Women's Resource Center on April 4, and received a tour and history of the facility from office administrator April Davis.
In addition to Ratliff, those taking part included Claudeo Mays, SGA vice president for public relations; Krista Hall, secretary; and Josh Woofter, parliamentarian. Also present were Kim Bess, residence life coordinator, and Zachary Lane, coordinator of student activities for MSU.
The Women's Resource Center, founded in 1983, operates a 36-bed shelter for men, women and children who are victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. In an average year, the WRC provides service to more than over 3,000 clients, including relocation and transition assistance. The agency is funded entirely through federal and state grants, as well as private donations.
